What are alarming symptoms in the eye that require immediate medical attention ?

  • Sudden pain.
  • Injury to eye
  • Decrease in vision.
  • Flashes of light.
  • Sudden development of floaters.
  • Redness in a eye which was white earlier.
  • Nausea; Vomiting, along with pain in the eyes.

How to apply eye drops?

  • In a fresh bottle discard the first drop of medication.
  • Wash hands.
  • Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling
  • Gently pull the lower eyelid down until it forms a small pocket, or pouch.
  • Squeeze the bottle or the dropper to release a single drop into the eye. Take care not to touch the eye or eyelid with the nozzle of the bottle.
  • Release the lower lid and close eyelid for 30 seconds.

If a dust particle irritates my eye, how should I wash it off ?

  • Avoid squeezing or rubbing the eyes.
  • The area around the eyes can be cleaned with sterile cotton, without applying any pressure directly over the eyes.
  • The face should be wiped with a Clean, Soft, Wet towel, avoiding the eye.
  • Avoid splashing water directly in to the eye.
  • Cup your hands with water, lower your eye in to it and slowly blink.

Can we take bath after eye surgery ?

  • Avoid head bath, water or Soap entering the eye for one week.
  • The hair may be washed in the first week with the head tilted backwards to prevent water entering the eyes.
  • Avoid swimming.
  • Avoid shower bath.

Can I leave for home, after a cataract surgery ?

It is possible to go home on the same day after surgery. But resting at home for 2 to 3 days is necessary.

What care should be taken ?, should I have go out after a eye surgery?

Protective eye glasses should be worn during the day time especially outdoors to avoid any discomfort from bright light, to protect the eye from dust and any injury to the eye.
